As the new year began, Samsung wasted no time in releasing the January 2025 security update for some devices and now it is expanding this update to more devices. On the other hand, the Korean tech giant is also working on the One UI 7 update for Galaxy devices and the company can launch this update with the Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung is set to launch the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, including Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra on January 22 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event that will take place in San Jose, California, USA. The upcoming Galaxy S series will launch One UI 7 out of the box.

Coming back, the new patches include security fixes for vulnerabilities, as usual, those that affect all Android devices and some that apply only to Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

January 2025 update for Samsung Galaxy devices fixes 50+ security flaws

The January 2025 patch contains fixes from Google for 32 vulnerabilities found in the core Android operating system. Among those 32, 5 are deemed critical, 25 are deemed high-risk, 1 CVE was already covered in previous updates, and 2 CVEs do not apply to Samsung devices.

For Galaxy devices, Samsung has detailed 22 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) vulnerabilities. These mainly relate to protection mechanism failures in SoundPicker, Samsung Messages, Notification Manager, and the bootloader.

in short, the January 2025 patch is a little less exciting than the patches released in the last few months. Particularly notable is the fact that Samsung’s semiconductor division has not contributed to the latest patch.

Samsung has already rolled out the January 2024 security update for some flagship devices and will be rolling it out to more eligible devices over the next few weeks. The update, once it’s available for your device and country, can be installed from the Settings >> Software update menu on your Galaxy phone or tablet.
